About Me

1I am a New York-bred transplanted Californian who is now stuck on Long Island.

I've lived in New York since birth except from 1993-2006 when I lived in California. I should have never left... California, that is.

Last Night…

I enjoy watching Monk and psych, but I forwent watching them last night in order to watch the EMK wake.  It has been talked about as an old-fashioned Irish wake.  However, it seemed pretty somber to me, although I only caught the first half.  However, I did enjoy hearing Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) talk about his old friend. The man who literally had me in tears — laughing — was former Sen. John C. Culver (D-IA) who related a story of he and Ted Kennedy and a sailing trip that Kennedy wrangled Culver into making.  It was hilarious.  Brian Stokes Mitchell also had me in tears with his rendition of The Impossible Dream.  Vice President Joe Biden eulogized his friend saying that Kennedy had been literally at his side for every life turn beginning when he [Biden] joined the Senate.  The whole ceremony, what I caught of it, was very touching.  I’ll be watching a lot of C-SPAN and CNN today.

Check out this link — http://tedkennedy.org/tributes — and, especially, read VPOTUS Biden’s tribute.  If you have a dry eye after reading that, you’re not human.

SuperClassico — Part 3

Tonight at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA, just south of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA play their third and final match of the SuperClassico.  In the two earlier meetings, the teams played to a scoreless draw and the Galaxy won the second match 1-0.  Chivas is 10-8-3-33 and in third place in the MLS Western Conference.  The Galaxy are 8-4-11-35, in second place.  Game time is 8pm PDT… that’s 11pm here in the East, with coverage on ESPN2 [HD].

U.S. Open Tennis

The U.S. Open is the final major of the tennis season.  For years, it has been a fixture on USA Network.  This year, cable coverage moves to the Tennis Channel and ESPN2 [HD].  The Open on USA was an event.  I’m anxious — not in a good way — to see what The Deuce does with the tournament, although I enjoy their coverage of Melbourne, Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

Ciao for now!
Mike

Perhaps more later.
